Accounting Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assess manual accounting and finance processes to discover automation opportunities.

• Construct repeatable procedures across diverse systems, exports, reports, and data sources.

• Enhance reconciliations, journal-entry preparation, closing tracking, reporting, and exception management.

• Facilitate the integration of operational data with accounting and finance processes.

• Develop templates, scripts, dashboards, workflows, and documentation that minimize manual tasks.

• Collaborate with accounting, finance, operations, and technology teams to identify process gaps and devise effective solutions.

• Design controls to ensure automation enhances accuracy rather than merely accelerating flawed processes.

• Establish exception-based workflows to allow teams to concentrate on issues rather than routine data entry.

• Thoroughly document processes to ensure they can be sustained and improved over time.

• Potentially assist with automation projects in other departments as the organization expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in automating manual processes using tools like Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, Python, Power Query, VBA, Google Apps Script, Zapier, Make, Power Automate, APIs, or similar platforms.

• Strong capability to work with data exports, reports, spreadsheets, and system-generated files.

• Familiarity with accounting or finance processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, accounts payable, payroll, reporting, or financial analysis.

• Ability to map existing processes, identify points of failure, and develop streamlined workflows.

• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

• Competence in collaborating with non-technical users and translating business challenges into automated solutions.

• Good habits in documentation.

• Comfort in a fast-paced environment where systems and processes are still being developed.

• Preferred experience with accounting, ERP, banking, payroll, expense management, inventory, reporting, or operational systems.

• Preferred experience in creating dashboards, exception reports, reconciliation tools, or workflow automations.

• Preferred experience in multi-system data matching and process enhancement.

• Preferred experience supporting accounting, finance, operations, logistics, transportation, or other data-intensive business environments.

• Background in accounting, finance, data analytics, systems, or engineering preferred.

• Candidates may be required to complete a practical work sample that includes process mapping, data cleaning, reconciliation logic, automation design, reporting, or workflow improvement.
