Wetland Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Lead and assist in wetland determinations and delineations.

• Execute ordinary high water mark delineations.

• Carry out functional assessments for wetlands and streams, including ORWAP or SFAM.

• Conduct mitigation monitoring activities in Oregon and Washington.

• Develop wetland delineation reports.

• Prepare applications for removal/fill permits.

• Create mitigation plans and monitoring reports.

• Perform Natural Resource Assessments and generate relevant reports as per Clean Water Services and/or Water Environment Services standards.

• Collaborate with regulatory agencies and clients to address permitting requirements.

• Assist in organizing logistics for project field activities.

• Mentor junior staff in wetland science disciplines.

• Contribute to various projects through technical fieldwork, report writing, and wetland-related permitting activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A B.A. or B.S. degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a closely related natural resource field is required.

• Preferred certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist or Wetland Professional in Training through the Society of Wetland Scientists’ Professional Certification Program.

• A minimum of five years of experience as a wetland scientist in Oregon or Washington is preferred.

• Strong botanical identification skills across all bioregions in the Pacific Northwest are advantageous.

• Project management experience, including project scoping, budgeting, invoicing, and scheduling, is a plus.

• Candidates must reside in western or central Oregon, or southwestern Washington.

• Capability to perform fieldwork in various weather conditions, steep and rugged terrain, and diverse environments.

• Proficient in extensive computer usage.

• Physical ability to operate a telephone.

• Ability to sit for prolonged periods.

• May be required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
