VP Product – Personal Lines

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Formulate and implement product strategies for personal lines insurance offerings, such as homeowners, renters, condominium, dwelling fire, and other relevant products.

• Discover opportunities for new products, coverage enhancements, endorsements, and market expansion.

• Perform competitive and market analysis to pinpoint pricing, coverage, underwriting, and distribution opportunities.

• Oversee the product lifecycle from development and implementation to enhancement and retirement.

• Create business cases and recommendations for new products and modifications to existing products.

• Track product performance using metrics like written premium, growth, retention, loss ratio, frequency, severity, rate adequacy, and profitability.

• Recognize trends and suggest corrective actions to enhance underwriting results.

• Collaborate with the Actuarial team to assess rate indications, pricing adequacy, segmentation, and underwriting profitability.

• Set and monitor product-level goals and performance targets.

• Analyze performance across geographic regions, perils, customer segments, and distribution channels to identify opportunities and emerging risks.

• Work with Underwriting to develop and refine eligibility rules, underwriting guidelines, risk segmentation, and appetite.

• Assess emerging risks and their potential effects on personal lines portfolios.

• Collaborate with catastrophe modeling and risk management teams to grasp exposure and accumulation issues.

• Partner with Compliance and Legal to ensure that products and changes comply with applicable state and federal regulations.

• Assist with regulatory filings and approvals, including rates, rules, forms, and underwriting alterations.

• Act as the primary business owner for personal lines products.

• Lead cross-functional product initiatives from conception through implementation.

• Develop product requirements and coordinate with IT and Operations for system enhancements.

• Collaborate with Distribution and Marketing on product positioning, communication, and sales strategies.

• Provide training and product guidance to underwriting, agency, and distribution partners.

• Oversee implementation timelines, testing, rollout, and post-implementation reviews.

• Monitor competitors, market conditions, consumer trends, and regulatory changes.

• Work with agency and distribution teams to understand market needs and gather producer feedback.

• Identify opportunities to enhance agent experience, customer value, and product competitiveness.

• Evaluate product performance by distribution channel and recommend changes as necessary.

• Reports to the Chief Personal Lines Officer.

• Travel: 0-10%


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, economics, or a related field.

• Over 5 years of experience in personal lines insurance, ideally in product management, underwriting, actuarial, or portfolio management.

• Strong grasp of personal lines insurance products, underwriting principles, pricing, and profitability.

• Experience with insurance carriers, MGAs, or other property & casualty organizations.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Capability to interpret insurance performance data and translate analysis into actionable business decisions.

• Strong project management and cross-functional leadership capabilities.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other analytical/business intelligence tools.

• CPCU, CIC, ARM, or other insurance designations (preferred).

• Experience with homeowners and/or personal auto products (preferred).

• Familiarity with insurance product filings and regulatory requirements (preferred).

• Knowledge of catastrophe-exposed property portfolios (preferred).

• Understanding of predictive analytics, insurance scoring, geospatial analytics, and catastrophe modeling (preferred).

• Experience in an MGA or entrepreneurial insurance environment (preferred).
