VP of Research, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mali.

📋 Description

• Define and enhance the research trajectory for core intelligence topics, including context representation, memory, reasoning, planning, and orchestration.

• Determine the appropriate instances for designing new model architectures versus adapting or utilizing cutting-edge open-source or commercial models.

• Establish evaluation frameworks that assess real-world applicability, robustness, safety, and long-term behavior.

• Take ownership of alignment, safety, and guardrail strategies as integral product considerations.

• Lead the exploration of retrieval-augmented training, mixture-of-experts, distillation, multi-agent orchestration, and multimodal systems.

• Influence the initial product intelligence direction in close collaboration with product and application engineering teams.

• Set high standards for research rigor, judgment, and aesthetic quality across the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in building or enhancing real Machine Learning (ML) systems deployed in production environments.

• Proven experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is mandatory.

• Strong technical acumen regarding model behavior, potential failure modes, and long-term trade-offs.

• A builder’s mindset, emphasizing the importance of systems that operate effectively in the real world.

• Ability to make irreversible or high-impact decisions even with incomplete information.

• A strong focus on evaluation, correctness, and the long-term behavior of systems.

• A high ownership mentality, functioning as a founder rather than a manager.

• Experience with GPU-based training and inference systems is essential.

• Proficiency in JAX, Python, and PyTorch.

• Willingness to undertake a 60-minute coding assessment is required.
