VP of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Lead the engineering team at Yourgi, consisting of approximately 30 engineers focused on developing the consumer application, provider tools, matching and booking systems, and marketplace interfaces.

• Report directly to the Chief Product & Technology Officer, taking responsibility for the structure, delivery, and growth of the engineering function.

• Organize teams to take ownership of the entire customer journey, enabling them to deliver results independently.

• Foster technical leadership within the organization, designate owners for cross-functional decisions, document the engineering strategy, and cultivate engineering leads.

• Implement AI-assisted development as the standard workflow, from specification to coding and review, incorporating automated test generation and evaluations into the CI/CD process.

• Establish quality standards driven by engineering through automated testing, CI/CD, and quantifiable engineering-health metrics.

• Oversee the technical roadmap for Yourgi Connect, which includes real-time availability, reservations, and bookings across a national network of physical centers.

• Transform shared backend capabilities into platform services utilized by product teams.

• Manage the operational rhythm, continuous deployment processes, feature flagging, release captain rotation, and on-call procedures.

• Present DORA delivery metrics to leadership and collaborate with Product teams on acceptance criteria and technical breakdowns.

• Take charge of recruitment, employee leveling, growth, performance management, development of management bench strength, budgeting, headcount planning, and tooling expenditures.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering.

• 6+ years of experience leading engineering teams through managers and leads.

• Proven track record of building teams that are responsible for product surfaces from inception to completion, adept at decomposing work, and evolving with the business.

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development within a team setting.

• Background in establishing engineering-led quality standards through automated testing and CI/CD practices.

• Experience managing remote engineering teams.

• Proven experience in overseeing an engineering budget and planning for headcount.

• Proficiency in making trade-offs with Product and Finance departments.

• Strong discipline in operations using delivery and reliability metrics, such as DORA.

• Must reside in and have authorization to work in the US; visa sponsorship is not available.

• Must be available during standard US business hours.

• Preferred: experience in marketplace, gig-economy, or consumer applications.

• Preferred: knowledge of two-sided matching and booking dynamics.

• Preferred: experience with mobile and web applications at scale, including native app release management.

• Preferred: background in platform or core services.

• Preferred: experience in scaling a product from initial markets to national presence.
