VP of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assume ownership of engineering within the terminal. Make technical and personnel decisions by bringing together the appropriate individuals and advocating a strong perspective, instead of escalating decisions upward.

• Develop an engineering performance framework that evaluates true individual contributions beyond ticket counts, considering quality, reliability, and the additional tasks that team members take on, and leverage this system to identify both high-performing and underperforming engineers.

• Establish and continuously refine the architectural and scaling strategy, informed by product and executive insights, and utilize your influence to integrate this work into pod roadmaps, ensuring that every pod aligns with a unified technical vision.

• Advocate for engineering at the executive level. Keep executive stakeholders and colleagues updated on engineering and product decisions that affect other areas such as marketing, business development, operations, and partnerships. Collaborate effectively across departments.

• Build and develop the team: identify gaps, recruit individuals who meet high standards, provide each engineer with a clear path for growth, nurture current engineers into technical leadership roles, and ensure that each pod is adequately resourced to achieve its roadmap.

⛳️ Requirements

• Have hands-on experience managing and leading engineers, including conducting one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and fostering individual growth.

• Function as a proactive builder who actively writes and reviews code and works directly within the system, rather than merely serving as a people manager.

• Be capable of engaging senior engineers regarding architectural and scaling decisions at a deep level and earning their respect.

• Experience serving as the primary voice for engineering among business and product leaders. Take a clear and assertive stance that serves the best interests of both engineering and the company, manage trade-offs effectively, and persuade others through logical reasoning rather than positional authority.

• Preferred

• Have led an engineering organization or team of a similar scale (approximately 10 to 12 engineers).

• Have scaled a team from a single or dual-pod structure into a larger organization with technical leads and engineering managers.

• A proven track record of developing engineers and advancing existing talent into senior or lead roles.

• Have personally sourced, hired, and onboarded engineers who became top performers.

• Experience in a healthcare, HIPAA, or SOC 2 compliant environment.

• Ability to organize disordered and ambiguous data into defensible conclusions.
