This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Establish and propel the technical direction for Implementation Platform Configuration and Enrollment Platform Core.
• Offer architectural guidance across configuration, enrollment processes, and event-sourced domain services.
• Prioritize configuration-driven methodologies to enhance the efficiency and reduce costs of carrier implementations.
• Lead cross-team initiatives and clarify ownership roles.
• Manage delivery obligations to carrier partners, including UAT handoff timelines.
• Accurately communicate project status to executive leadership.
• Collaborate with Product, Delivery Management, Underwriting, and Compliance to determine requirements and dependencies.
• Drive urgency in incident response, conduct root-cause analysis, and identify systemic issues with follow-up actions.
• Develop a scalable automated testing framework that provides clear outcomes and allows for repeatable regression tests.
• Lead, mentor, and cultivate Engineering Managers; oversee performance and succession planning.
• Oversee hiring processes and manage contractor and vendor partnerships.
• Formulate AI adoption strategies, promote AI tooling and AI-first delivery methodologies, and set standards for AI-generated code.
• Represent Bestow in dealings with carrier partners, vendors, and technology firms during due diligence and negotiation processes.
• Report directly to the VP of Engineering and supervise a team of Engineering Managers.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Over 8 years of professional software development experience.
• At least 5 years of progressive engineering management experience, including oversight of other managers.
• Experience managing 2 to 3 Engineering Managers and approximately 20 to 30 engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain microservices architectures at scale.
• Familiarity with event-driven and event-sourced design approaches.
• Proficient in Golang and/or Python for backend services.
• Experience in API design utilizing gRPC and REST.
• Knowledge of asynchronous messaging patterns.
• Extensive experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, data modeling, and query optimization.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.
• Successfully transformed at least one team to fully adopt agentic engineering principles.
• Capability to conceptualize frontend composition, data platforms, and infrastructure.
• Aptitude to contribute to codebases and participate in architectural decision-making.
• Strong advocate for automated testing and test-driven development methodologies.
• Ability to define metrics, enforce accountability, and adhere to deadlines and SLAs across various teams.
• Competence in attracting, hiring, mentoring, and retaining engineering talent.
• Skill in articulating complex systems and trade-offs to executives, carrier partners, and engineers.
• Experience in life insurance, annuities, or other regulated industries is a significant advantage, though not mandatory.
• Proven track record in delivering implementations for enterprise or carrier partners within contractual timelines is a notable advantage, though not mandatory.
