VP of Engineering Applications, Artificial Intelligence

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the application engineering strategy and its implementation across backend, mobile, and desktop platforms.

• Lead and develop a small, senior applications team, comprising backend, mobile, and desktop engineers.

• Define the architectural vision for Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven product workflows, APIs, and client integrations.

• Ensure the integration of AI capabilities into the product with well-defined abstractions, predictable behaviors, and effective failure management.

• Collaborate closely with Machine Learning leadership to convert model capabilities into deployable product features.

• Make significant decisions regarding latency, cost, reliability, security, and user experience.

• Define clear ownership boundaries across backend, mobile, and desktop to avoid architectural inconsistencies.

• Guarantee production readiness through techniques such as observability, monitoring, retries, fallbacks, privacy measures, and cost controls.

• Strike a balance between speed and discipline by delivering quickly without sacrificing long-term system quality.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in leading application or product engineering for intricate systems.

• Required experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

• Strong hands-on experience in building and deploying backend systems utilized in production environments.

• Proven track record in delivering AI-powered products, with a comprehensive understanding of model integration trade-offs.

• Exceptional system design abilities across services, APIs, clients, and data flows.

• Comfortable working across backend, mobile, and desktop platforms, even if your expertise is primarily in one area.

• Demonstrated capability to make impactful technical decisions in uncertain situations.

• A strong inclination towards shipping, iterating, and learning from real-world applications.

• Low ego, excellent judgment, and the ability to elevate the technical standards for the entire applications organization.

• Must be open to completing a 60-minute coding assessment.
