Vice President – Research and Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and lead all aspects of Research & Development for the FINS growth products at Harris School Solutions.

• Drive ongoing product research and development aimed at enhancing current offerings and advancing web and cloud functionalities on a standardized technical platform.

• Integrate AI into products and engineering methodologies, progressing from initial experiments to large-scale AI implementation.

• Oversee a team of over 40 developers and managers distributed across various offices and a remote workforce in the US.

• Convert business objectives and product specifications into actionable development strategies and prioritized AI roadmaps.

• Ensure timely project delivery within budget constraints by utilizing AI-assisted development, testing, and documentation practices.

• Provide strategic guidance and technical insights into the overall business unit strategy.

• Promote the use of AI developer tools and measure productivity and quality outcomes.

• Lead the implementation of AI-enhanced capabilities for K12 finance, human resources, and administrative processes.

• Establish responsible AI practices that encompass data privacy, student data protection, model governance, human-in-the-loop controls, and customer communication.

• Effectively communicate strategy, progress, challenges, priorities, and obstacles to executives and senior management.

• Oversee both onsite and offshore development teams.

• Encourage collaboration across business units and share AI insights and reusable components.

• Provide technical guidance for product development and support services.

• Assess organizational structure, technology, and engineering practices, implementing necessary enhancements.

• Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies, particularly in AI.

• Conduct interviews, hire, coach, develop, assign, and manage employee performance.

• Manage departmental budgets while fostering continuous professional development.

⛳️ Requirements

• More than 5 years of management experience leading software development teams.

• Experience managing profit and loss (P&L).

• Proven track record in portfolio management across multiple products and technology stacks.

• Practical knowledge of AI-assisted development tools.

• Demonstrated success in delivering AI or machine learning capabilities in production software.

• Expertise in Agile methodologies.

• Experience in the public sector or K12 solutions.

• Familiarity with SaaS deployments and infrastructure.

• Experience with AI platforms, LLM integration, or developing agentic and copilot-style features in enterprise applications.

• Proven history of establishing responsible AI or data governance practices in regulated environments.
