Vice President – Regional Advocacy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Create and implement a comprehensive advocacy strategy spanning approximately 25 states.

• Secure legislative achievements, defend policies, and engage with state and regulatory bodies.

• Synchronize state teams with federal objectives and coordinate campaigns at federal, state, and local levels.

• Spearhead rapid response initiatives to address emerging legislative threats or opportunities.

• Provide consistent updates to executive leadership regarding the impact of regional advocacy efforts.

• Supervise a regional advocacy team of over 60 professionals, including managing directors, government relations directors, grassroots managers, and operations staff.

• Oversee hiring processes, regional and state budgets, compliance, legislative advancements, campaign metrics, and team performance.

• Ensure that state advocacy positions align with the organization's policy framework.

• Offer coaching, professional development, and performance management to team members.

• Expand and mobilize volunteer networks while integrating volunteer participation into legislative efforts.

• Facilitate successful volunteer fundraising initiatives.

• Represent the organization in coalitions, conferences, public forums, donor meetings, events, and communications.

• Build and nurture relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.

• Participate in the Senior Leadership Team and assist with cross-functional planning for ACS CAN, its board, and organizational messaging.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, law, or a related field.

• At least 15 years of experience in government relations, advocacy, or public affairs.

• Minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position.

• Demonstrated success in leading multi-state legislative campaigns and managing large, geographically diverse teams.

• Experience in volunteer engagement and donor relations within mission-driven organizations.

• Proven experience in high-level stakeholder engagement across advocacy and other organizations.

• Comprehensive knowledge of state legislative processes and healthcare policy.

• Strong background in collaborating with state health policymakers and advocacy leaders.

• Willingness to travel frequently across various regions.

• Experience in grassroots organizing and community involvement.

• Familiarity with budget management and oversight of external vendors.

• Ability to navigate politically sensitive situations with discretion and empathy.

• Outstanding strategic thinking, communication, and relationship-building abilities.

• Dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in advocacy and leadership roles.

• Capability to travel by car, train, or plane as necessary.
