This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Lead NPR’s individual and institutional giving division, consisting of around 20 employees across institutional giving, planned giving, individual giving, and donor recognition.
• Take responsibility for the delivery of approximately $75M+ in annual revenue while ensuring precise forecasting.
• Develop portfolio strategies and capacity targets for fundraising teams.
• Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and Finance to create multi-year revenue projections.
• Implement moves management discipline, including pipeline stages, advancement criteria, portfolio reviews, and accountability.
• Work with Development Operations to build pipeline reporting and leverage it for weekly and monthly decision-making.
• Establish quality benchmarks for briefing materials, proposals, reports, and donor engagement strategies.
• Identify and address stalled donor relationships by assessing skill, capacity, strategy, or organizational gaps.
• Manage and nurture five direct reports while enhancing their management skills.
• Define fundraising excellence and implement coaching, training, evaluation, and advancement processes.
• Cultivate fundraisers into effective representatives of NPR.
• Participate in donor meetings as a coach and observer.
• Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and People team on hiring, performance management, and organizational structure.
• Oversee a tiered donor recognition system and develop retention and upgrade stewardship practices.
• Identify and apply AI and automation efficiencies for research, preparation, drafting, and analysis.
• Partner with Digital Revenue & Operations to ensure a cohesive donor experience across various channels.
• Coordinate donor engagement with Member Station colleagues and the Network Growth team.
• Align fundraising priorities with editorial and executive leadership.
• In the first year, implement pipeline standards, define fundraising excellence, launch tiered recognition, and enhance frontline capacity.
• 15+ years of professional experience, including over 7 years in leadership roles managing multiple teams through managers.
• 5+ years in development, or relevant experience in enterprise sales, executive search, or another long-cycle, trust-dependent relationship discipline as a substitute.
• Proven accountability for a revenue program of similar scale with consistent year-over-year growth.
• Demonstrated experience in building pipeline systems and coaching practices that enhance team performance.
• Proficiency in pipeline data and CRM reporting.
• Working knowledge of AI tools and a history of achieving practical efficiency improvements.
• Excellent listening, writing, and speaking skills.
• Capability to represent a complex organization to sophisticated audiences.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
• Familiarity with complex fundraising organizations or federated nonprofit models is preferred.
• Understanding of media/public broadcasting organizations and NPR’s relationship with Member Stations is preferred.
