UX Design Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of the Oomnitza design system from start to finish, encompassing visual language, interaction patterns, accessibility guidelines, and product consistency.

• Sustain and enhance the Storybook component library to ensure components are accurate, well-documented, high-performing, accessible, and easy for Product Engineers to utilize.

• Develop and manage prototyping tools, which include design tokens, AI-prompt scaffolding, design markdowns, and starter kits.

• Collaborate with Product Engineers on innovative UX interactions, creating new patterns, components, or guidance for the design system.

• Work alongside engineering to ensure the design system aligns with the implementation library and to identify unique interactions for system promotion.

• Evaluate prototypes against the design system, identify design discrepancies, and uphold the quality standards for design outputs.

• Monitor Figma plugins, AI design tools, headless component libraries, and accessibility standards; recommend investments to enhance team efficiency.

• Offer Product Engineers a well-tested, documented, and opinionated platform for swift, high-quality discovery and prototyping.

• Dedicate a significant portion of the role to working in code and design tools while providing consultation on genuinely innovative interactions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 5 years of combined experience in product design and front-end engineering.

• Proven experience in owning or significantly contributing to a production design system and a Storybook or similar component library.

• Strong front-end capabilities in React, TypeScript, modern CSS including design tokens, and best practices for accessibility.

• Familiarity with AI-enabled design and prototyping workflows.

• Capability to identify effective design and convert it into reusable patterns and components.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including documenting patterns, briefing Product Engineers, and influencing without direct authority.

• Self-motivated and results-driven, with the ability to identify impactful system investments and prioritize tasks independently.

• Experience in B2B SaaS or enterprise software is a strong advantage.
