This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Evaluate AI-generated accounting outputs for practical accounting procedures.
• Ascertain if accounting conclusions are technically accurate and adequately substantiated.
• Confirm that necessary accounting actions have been completed and recorded.
• Identify unsupported figures, incomplete tasks, misapplied standards, fabricated figures, and unfounded assumptions.
• Review US GAAP financial statements and end-of-period reporting.
• Assess reconciliations, substantive analytics, tie-outs, and subledger-to-general-ledger reconciliations.
• Interpret the status of accounting periods as open, locked, or reopened.
• Evaluate accounting errors, misstatements, materiality, adjusting journal entries, deferred tax implications, and ledger posting status.
• Analyze US GAAP treatments, including ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 350, ASC 360, income tax accounting, ASC 326, ASC 805, reserves, allowances, and significant accounting estimates.
• Review workpapers and accounting memoranda for completeness, professional quality, cross-referencing, sign-off, and evidential support.
• Offer clear agree/disagree rationales and detailed explanations of technical errors and incomplete reasoning.
• Differentiate between minor presentation issues and significant accounting deficiencies.
• Consistently apply evaluation standards and provide feedback to enhance AI performance in professional accounting tasks.
• Over 3 years of professional accounting experience in external audit, controllership, technical accounting, FP&A, tax, or a related field.
• Current or recent hands-on experience with US GAAP.
• Strong professional judgment in financial reporting, accounting estimates, closing processes, and technical accounting.
• Ability to identify unsupported figures, incomplete deliverables, and misapplied accounting standards.
• CPA, actively pursuing CPA qualification, experience in Big Four or accounting firms, industry accounting experience, or a comparable professional background.
• Proficient in reading financial statements, supporting schedules, reconciliations, and accounting workpapers.
• Comfortable utilizing professional accounting software and financial systems.
• Familiarity with tools such as CaseWare, NetSuite, Power BI, or similar audit, ERP, and reporting platforms.
• Excellent written English skills with the ability to articulate accounting conclusions clearly and accurately.
• Work must be conducted without the use of confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or any third party.
• H1-B and STEM OPT support is not available for this engagement.
• Part-time independent contractor position.
