This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Design, configure, implement, and maintain UNIX hardware and operating system environments, including AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris.
• Optimize backup processes and manage disk-space allocations.
• Execute installations and upgrades.
• Monitor and analyze logs.
• Implement operating-system security measures.
• Design and implement systems that ensure high availability and redundancy.
• Plan and execute data migrations between systems.
• Provide technical support and expertise to team members.
• Oversee operating-system, hardware, storage, and backup procedures.
• Assess execution and recovery times during disaster recovery and production environment testing.
• Design and implement improvements for operational efficiency.
• Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and tests related to disaster recovery and data archiving.
• Participate in project evaluations, including feasibility studies, scope assessments, timelines, task lists, and project duration.
• Design, implement, and conduct UNIX/Linux authentication and security audits.
• Provide solutions for identified security issues.
• Review real-time trending data and escalate to tiered support when necessary.
• Maintain communication with users and supervisors/managers regarding open or pending service requests.
• Evaluate and establish long-term strategic goals for production operating-system versions in collaboration with data owners.
• Configure and manage Linux/Unix operating systems, install software, troubleshoot issues, maintain network-component integrity, and implement enhancements to boost reliability and performance.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of systems administration experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems, including AIX, Solaris, or HP-UX.
• At least five (5) years of experience in disaster recovery and data replication.
• A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on troubleshooting, tuning, and patching experience.
• At least five (5) years of experience in administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of UNIX server clusters, load balancing, and virtualization.
• Demonstrated experience with both UNIX and Linux operating systems and a clear understanding of their differences.
• Familiarity with STIGs and experience using STIG tools, applications, and testing.
• Experience with OS and application updates, patching, general maintenance, file-system management, and verifying directory/mount points.
• Experience operating in development, testing, and production environments.
• Knowledge of cloud computing and cloud architecture.
• Understanding of virtual environments such as VMware and Kubernetes.
• Experience with backup and restore procedures.
• Command-line system administration experience, including file-system management, user-account management, and verifying network configurations.
• Strong knowledge of both virtual and physical network configurations.
• Familiarity with DISA STIG guidance and RMF.
• Extensive IT systems troubleshooting experience.
• Clearance requirement: None.
• Relevant computing-environment certifications/knowledge include: HP UX CSA, HP OpenVMS, GCUX, SCSA, SCNA, UNIX AIX, Linux, RHCT, RHCE, RHCSA.
