Underwriting Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Underwrite individual life insurance applications, including those with impaired risk, with an expected independent approval authority of $3 million.

• Assess medical, financial, and non-medical data to make informed underwriting decisions within the designated authority.

• Review incoming requirements and establish the suitable risk classification in line with underwriting standards.

• Clearly and professionally communicate underwriting decisions to both internal and external stakeholders.

• Develop and sustain effective working relationships with key distributors, independent agents, BGAs, and internal sales colleagues.

• Oversee an assigned caseload while adhering to production, quality, and timeliness expectations.

• Collaborate with internal teams to achieve business goals, facilitate case placements, and enhance the customer experience.

• Organize work efficiently and deliver prompt, accurate results in a dynamic environment.

• Perform additional job responsibilities as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

• At least 6 years of experience in life insurance underwriting.

• Demonstrated capability to underwrite large, complex cases, including those with impaired risks.

• Familiarity with the independent agent/brokerage (BGA) distribution channel.

• Proven decision-making authority on higher face amounts and intricate risk profiles.

• Relevant industry coursework relative to experience (preferred).

• Progress toward or completion of industry designations such as FALU, FLMI, CLU, or equivalent coursework (preferred).

• Experience in supporting distribution partners, including independent agents and BGAs (preferred).

• Background with larger face amount individual life cases (preferred).

• Ongoing professional development in line with life underwriting proficiency (preferred).
