This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Select, price, and develop coverage terms for small commercial lines accounts to achieve profitable underwriting outcomes while providing leadership, support, and coaching for the underwriting function.
• Assess new business applications to determine the level of risk involved.
• Make decisions to accept or decline risks based on the company's underwriting guidelines.
• Verify applications for completeness.
• Communicate with agents to obtain missing or incomplete information.
• Utilize sound underwriting judgment and technical expertise, along with ongoing personal development, to align with the company's objectives for quality and timeliness.
• Support the data entry unit in processing new business, renewals, policy modifications, and other related transactions.
• Clarify insurance coverages for agents and policyholders; respond to phone inquiries from agents and insureds regarding coverages and pricing.
• Foster and maintain strong relationships with agents and effectively communicate underwriting decisions to both agents and insureds.
• Review renewal policy information to assess appropriate pricing based on exposure; determine renewal eligibility based on company criteria.
• Review and approve all submitted policy changes.
• Collaborate with other functions or departments to improve and develop existing products to streamline the underwriting process.
• A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, ideally with a background in insurance or equivalent experience.
• One (1) to Three (3) years of commercial experience in a company or agency setting is preferred.
• Commercial Technical Assistants with a minimum of 2 years of experience will also be considered.
• Evidence of self-development through the attainment of professional insurance designations such as CLCS, AU, CPCU, ARM, etc.
