This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa, +5 more states.
• Assist in underwriting insurance risks in alignment with the business plan and delegated authority to achieve business goals.
• Ensure adherence to internal and external regulations and guidelines.
• Provide technical underwriting and administrative assistance to the underwriting team.
• Collect information, prepare documentation, collaborate with internal partners, and support underwriters with agent interactions.
• Analyze underwriting data to triage, prepare, and respond to quotes, renewals, and policy endorsements or inquiries.
• Apply published underwriting guidelines and ensure compliance with all company filings, rules, and regulations.
• Underwrite and process all endorsement requests within the assigned letter of authority.
• Independently implement pricing strategies and document pricing decisions to fulfill regulatory requirements for assigned accounts.
• Proactively recognize and leverage opportunities to upsell and cross-sell UFG coverages and products.
• Document assigned files with high-quality underwriting information consistent with our business strategy.
• Screen new business submissions for designated underwriter(s) and create file documentation in relevant systems for new accounts using information provided in applications.
• Provide a thorough analysis and underwriting recommendation to the Underwriter when decisions exceed assigned authority.
• Offer clear instructions to Support Staff regarding policy changes, renewals, and quote entries.
• Act as a liaison between partner departments to resolve issues that may arise at a policy level (billing, collections, premium audit, risk control, etc.).
• Independently seek agency engagement to retrieve missing information or clarify policy requirements.
• Cultivate a collaborative working relationship with assigned underwriters to achieve KPI metrics.
• Identify risks that necessitate reinsurance and risk control services.
• Actively contribute to the review and analysis of the portfolio to ensure progress towards key business objectives.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
• Completion of or progress towards CIC or AU designations.
• Preferred 3 years of experience in commercial property and casualty insurance.
• Knowledge of coverage forms and endorsements used in policy construction.
• Efficiently use internal tools, resources, and administrative systems (Risk Selection & Line of Business Manual, Reference Connect, Guidewire, LC360, etc.) for effective decision-making.
• Stay updated on underwriting strategies, regulations, and trends for the assigned territory to make informed underwriting decisions.
• Be solution-oriented.
