This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Gathers and retrieves data utilizing a computerized cancer registry system, responsible for identifying cases, abstracting information, and following up on cases of malignant diseases diagnosed and treated at the medical center.
• Analyzes and interprets medical information found in the medical records of cancer patients, coding the topography and morphology of cancer cases.
• Codes and abstracts data for input into the cancer registry’s computer system.
• Collaborates with clinicians, epidemiologists, and other researchers on cancer-related studies and research projects; highlights the strengths and limitations of cancer registry data and offers guidance on the appropriate use of this data.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting medical information for the purpose of coding and classifying malignant cases in accordance with American College of Surgeons (ACOS) standards.
• Skilled in abstracting information from patient medical records and histories to fulfill the data requirements of the cancer registry computer system.
• Capable of operating a computer terminal to retrieve patient information and conduct cancer registry inquiry tasks.
• Competent in analyzing and interpreting cancer registry data for users of the registry.
