Truss Repair Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Design repairs for both residential and commercial roof and floor trusses, as well as related engineered wood products.

• Create truss repair drawings, details, and supporting calculations.

• Assess damaged, altered, or nonconforming truss conditions and formulate repair solutions.

• Examine construction documents and truss design drawings to ensure accuracy, adherence to design requirements, and compliance with codes.

• Establish repair design requirements based on structural principles.

• Compute and analyze tributary loads, concentrated loads, and load transfers.

• Utilize MiTek SE and other truss engineering software for condition analysis and repair design development.

• Engage with clients to gather missing information, clarify field conditions, respond to technical inquiries, and communicate repair specifications.

• Coordinate with Architects or Engineers when technical clarifications or engineering reviews are necessary.

• Oversee multiple repair projects, manage workload priorities, and track project status to ensure deadlines are met.

• Organize job-related files following Fieldstone's file and folder structure procedures.

• Implement Fieldstone Quality Control procedures to guarantee work accuracy and completeness.

• Adhere to Fieldstone and client-specific CAD, file management, and documentation standards.

• Promote outstanding service to both external and internal clients.

• Undertake additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient knowledge of wood truss systems, truss products, metal plate-connected trusses, connectors, and associated engineered wood products.

• Familiarity with IRC, IBC, ASCE 7, NDS for Wood Construction, and ANSI/TPI standards.

• Comprehensive understanding of structural principles, including roof and floor loading, load paths, wood member design, and wood connector design.

• Strong mathematical skills, capable of calculating tributary loads, concentrated loads, and load transfer.

• Ability to interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, construction documents, truss design drawings, and field reports.

• Insight into residential and commercial construction as it pertains to truss design and repair conditions.

• Capacity to devise practical truss repair solutions based on project information.

• Proficient knowledge of MiTek SE or similar metal plate-connected truss engineering software.

• Competence in preparing repair drawings, details, calculations, and technical documentation.

• Familiarity with AutoCAD is preferred.

• Excellent technical writing and verbal communication abilities.

• Keen attention to detail with the capability to identify discrepancies or missing information.

• Proficiency in managing and prioritizing multiple projects.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Effective communication skills with clients and project partners.

• Capability to meet deadlines consistently.

• Over 3 years of experience in wood truss design and engineering software.

• Direct experience in designing truss repairs is highly preferred.

• A degree in civil or structural engineering is preferred but not mandatory.

• Experience in computer-aided drafting is preferred.
