This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the technical lead or study manager on transmission planning projects, overseeing scope, timeline, quality, and client engagement.
• Execute steady-state load flow and contingency analysis for utility transmission planning and interconnection studies.
• Carry out transient stability and dynamic simulation studies, incorporating both conventional generation and inverter-based resources.
• Direct generation and large load interconnection impact studies across various regional areas.
• Formulate and evaluate long-term transmission expansion plans.
• Assist with compliance work for FERC Order 1920 proactive transmission planning and Order 2023 interconnection reform.
• Conduct studies and assessments based on NERC reliability standards.
• Write and perform quality assurance on technical study reports for regulatory submissions, client deliverables, and interconnection applications.
• Create Python-based automation tools for study execution, model management, and quality of outputs.
• Guide and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
• Engage in business development through writing proposals, developing scopes, delivering client presentations, and identifying opportunities.
• Keep abreast of changing FERC policies, regional planning standards, and trends in grid technology.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in transmission planning, power system studies, or a related field of electrical engineering.
• Preferred 5–8+ years of experience in transmission planning, power system studies, or a related electrical engineering area.
• Practical experience with transmission planning software such as PSS/E or PSLF.
• Proven experience in leading or managing technical study projects as the primary contact.
• EIT or PE registration, or an active pursuit of licensure.
• Knowledge of regional ISOs/RTOs and their interconnection processes and planning criteria.
• Experience with IBR and BESS dynamic modeling in accordance with NERC MOD-026/027/031/032/033 standards.
• Understanding of long-term transmission expansion planning and scenario-based planning methodologies.
• Experience with large load interconnection studies.
• Proficiency in Python for automating power system studies, managing models, and handling data workflows.
• Experience in short circuit analysis with tools like ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP.
• Familiarity with electromagnetic transient software such as PSCAD or EMTP.
• Strong skills in technical report writing and the ability to convey complex results to non-engineering audiences and utility executives effectively.
