This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and cultivate a team of engineers, designers, and technical specialists focused on transmission lines.
• Oversee staffing, recruitment, hiring, workload forecasting, and resource allocation.
• Ensure safe, on-time, and budget-compliant delivery of transmission line engineering projects while maintaining quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance and strategic direction for intricate transmission line initiatives.
• Act as a senior technical resource for both staff and clients.
• Establish and enhance engineering standards, QA/QC processes, and operational workflows.
• Manage utilization, backlog oversight, staffing forecasts, revenue objectives, profitability, and financial performance of the department.
• Collaborate with project managers and business leaders to assess performance, manage risks, and address resource limitations.
• Foster relationships with utility clients, contractors, and industry partners.
• Assist in pursuits, proposals, scope definition, contract negotiations, and initiatives to enhance client satisfaction.
• Identify opportunities for business growth, service expansion, and market development.
• Advocate for safety, quality, compliance, and professional development programs.
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• A minimum of 12 years of experience with electric utilities, EPC firms, or engineering consulting companies.
• At least 10 years of experience in transmission line engineering (design, analysis, modeling, or similar).
• Experience in managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, project portfolios, resource planning, and financial outcomes.
• Project management expertise with transmission projects ranging from 4kV to 500kV, including WBS, critical path, EV, SOV, milestone, and change management methodologies.
• Proficiency in PLS-CADD and other transmission line engineering software tools and principles.
• Willingness to travel for client presentations, field visits, industry conferences, and project reviews.
• Preferred: Coordination with stakeholders regarding permitting, environmental concerns, ROW, planning, procurement, geotechnical and constructability factors.
• Preferred: Skills in recruiting, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
• Preferred: Experience in business development, client relationship management, and delegating engineering tasks.
• Preferred: Proficiency in PLS-POLE, L-PILE, and/or MFAD.
• Preferred: Familiarity with NERC, FERC, NESC, ASCE, IEEE, ANSI, FAC-008, and FERC Order 881.
• Preferred: Knowledge of engineering standards, QA/QC programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Preferred: Understanding of consulting business operations, utilization management, revenue forecasting, and departmental financial performance.
• Preferred: Skills in line routing, structure spotting, structural analysis and design, foundation design, hardware selection, conductor and shield wire selection, material specifications, and construction support.
• Preferred: Experience in developing client proposals, T&M and fixed fee scopes of work, risk registers, schedules, and client onboarding requirements.
