
Transmission Designer – Power Delivery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Design overhead and underground transmission lines ranging from 69kV to 500kV and beyond.
• Conduct line routing assessments, determine structure locations, and develop transmission line layouts.
• Create engineering and construction packages, which include plan and profile drawings, staking sheets, framing drawings, and material lists.
• Collaborate with survey, LiDAR, geotechnical, environmental, and right-of-way data to facilitate project development.
• Employ PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and related design software to produce transmission line deliverables.
• Evaluate engineering criteria, client standards, NESC requirements, and relevant regulatory standards during the design process.
• Work closely with civil, structural, substation, environmental, permitting, and project management teams.
• Engage with clients, utilities, contractors, and technical stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Assist with constructability reviews and offer technical support during construction and commissioning activities.
• Recognize design risks and propose feasible engineering solutions to meet project goals.
• Aid in the preparation of task estimates, schedules, and proposals.
• Participate in field reviews, site visits, and walkdowns as necessary.
• Foster positive relationships with colleagues, project teams, and clients. Occasional travel to client sites and other AECOM offices is required.
• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or a related field, along with 4 years of relevant experience, or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Experience in supporting electric utility transmission line projects.
• Proficiency in transmission line design software such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
• Familiarity with transmission line design standards, utility practices, and NESC requirements.
• Capability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, survey data, and technical documentation.
• A preference for candidates with 6+ years of transmission line design experience.
• Preferred experience in designing transmission facilities from 69kV to 500kV.
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER is preferred.
• Experience in supporting EPC, design-build, or utility capital projects is preferred.
• Familiarity with utility and regional transmission owner standards is preferred.
• Experience in coordinating with survey, environmental, permitting, and right-of-way teams is preferred.
• Self-motivated with strong technical problem-solving skills is preferred.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills are preferred.
• Success in collaborating with remote and multidisciplinary teams is preferred.
• Experience in supporting renewable energy interconnections and grid expansion projects is preferred.
• Experience with both brownfield and greenfield transmission projects is preferred.
