This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Collaborate with product development, engineering, Safety and Regulatory, and fleet operation teams to support Torc’s Test Safety program.
• Drive, execute, and maintain the Operational Safety Concept along with operational safety-relevant work products.
• Create and uphold Test Safety processes for software releases and public road testing.
• Lead and conduct safety risk assessments with internal stakeholders.
• Develop and document the Operational Safety plan, requirements, and concept.
• Partner with product management, design engineering, service, and maintenance to advance Operational Safety Design.
• Assist in the development and upkeep of operational procedures for the safe testing of autonomous vehicles.
• Conduct data analyses to uphold the safety case for Autonomous Vehicle platforms, including real-time safety support during operational testing.
• Establish metrics to monitor Operational Safety in autonomous vehicle testing.
• Assess test safety results and formulate risk mitigation plans.
• Aid in accident and incident response, mishap investigations, and corrective action planning.
• Review engineering specifications, test procedures, change proposals, deficiency reports, exceptions, and other requests for test safety implications.
• Prepare presentations, analyses, and reports for customer and Torc Safety Board meetings, program design reviews, and test readiness evaluations.
• Contribute to safety and reliability analyses, encompassing FMEA, DFMEA, DFMEDA, FTA, and STPA.
• Support cross-functional product development engineering teams in identifying and addressing gaps for component- and system-level safety compliance.
• Review system technical specifications and requirements, design documents, software development, test plans, and test reports.
• Coordinate among stakeholders to integrate test safety into autonomous development testing and operations.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, along with competencies and technical proficiencies typically gained through 4+ years of experience; or a Master’s Degree in the same fields with competencies and technical proficiencies usually acquired through 0–3+ years of experience.
• Familiarity with automotive, heavy-duty trucks, or aerospace products and industries.
• Professional experience in the automotive and surface transportation safety sector.
• Knowledge or theoretical understanding of Systems Engineering, Hazard and Risk Assessment (HARA), Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and/or Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA).
• Strong critical and logical thinking skills to identify issues and provide solutions that ensure efficiency, safety, and quality.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a knack for identifying root causes in complex integrated systems.
• Experience in project management, vehicle program management, the product development life cycle, and project planning.
• Familiarity with requirements management tools such as JAMA and frameworks for documenting, reviewing, and approving safety requirements.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented, dependable, and self-motivated.
• Competence in working within an environment characterized by ambiguity and ongoing change.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing business demands.
• Capable of ethically managing sensitive and confidential information with objectivity and professionalism.
