Test Development Specialist, Science

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.

📋 Description

• Create domain-specific specifications, test blueprints, item specifications, art specifications, and style guides.

• Develop training manuals for item writers, encompassing bias and universal design protocols.

• Facilitate workshops for item writers within the designated science domain or project.

• Write, review, edit, and revise science test items.

• Establish scoring guidelines and rubrics for constructed-response and performance assessments.

• Assist with range-finding activities and construct pilot, field-test, and operational test forms.

• Aid in the development of test ancillaries, including test directions and practice assessments.

• Support the final review and approval processes for assigned items, tests, forms, and ancillaries.

• Facilitate or assist in state committee reviews, including content-item and bias evaluations, alignment studies, and standard-setting activities.

• Collaborate with Senior Test Development Specialists, Project Leads, Directors, state education department representatives, and project team members.

• Delegate tasks and provide guidance to support staff and contractors as required.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of three years of teaching experience in grades 6–8 and/or high school science, or equivalent experience.

• Comprehensive understanding of science content, curriculum, and instructional methods.

• General familiarity with standards in the test publishing industry.

• Knowledge of best teaching practices within the area of expertise.

• Experience working collaboratively in teams as well as independently.

• Exceptional written and oral communication abilities.

• Capacity to resolve complex issues related to writing, reviewing, revising items, and creating test forms.

• Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions and directives.

• Awareness of national and state-specific curriculum standards.

• Experience in writing and editing test items.

• Experience in constructing test forms.

• Strong computer proficiency and organizational skills.

• Reliable attendance when scheduled, with the ability to work under supervision and respond to feedback.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.

• Ability to work respectfully within diverse teams.

• Consistent performance during periods of increased workload.

• Capability to set and meet deadlines while managing multiple job functions concurrently.

• Willingness to engage in business travel.

• Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 8 hours.

• Capacity to use a computer monitor, keyboard, and/or mouse for up to 8 hours per day.

• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds as needed.
