This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.
• Daily review of transcribed reports to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Make necessary corrections or fill in any gaps.
• Forward reports to Scanning for indexing into patients’ electronic medical records (EMRs).
• Conduct periodic reviews of providers’ transcribed reports against the actual dictation.
• Utilize industry-specific standards from current resources and references.
• Randomly select transcribed or edited reports for review through a standardized selection process.
• Provide consistent and timely feedback to the lead and/or manager.
• Assist in eliminating recurring errors, enhancing skills, and mentoring medical transcriptionists/editors.
• Identify, interpret, and assess inconsistencies, discrepancies, and inaccuracies in medical dictation.
• Correct, clarify, and/or report dictation issues as needed.
• Support quality documentation and contribute to procedures, training, and resources.
• Develop policies and procedures that enhance the efficiency of the transcription department.
• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
• Minimum of one year of previous experience as a transcriptionist in the medical field is required.
• Medical Transcription Certification is preferred but not mandatory.
• Preferred medical transcription education or qualifying degree/experience.
• Experience in orthopedics is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary.
• Advanced understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, and laboratory values.
• Comprehensive knowledge of medical transcription guidelines, including The AAMT Book of Style for Medical Transcription and transcription practices.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including grammar, punctuation, and style.
• Strong acoustical skills are required.
• Familiarity with medico-legal implications and risk management responsibilities concerning healthcare records.
• Ability to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
• Capacity to comprehend diverse accents, dialects, and varying dictation styles.
• Proficient in referencing, researching, reporting, tracking, and monitoring.
• Capability to multitask amidst multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
• Competence in operating computers, various software applications, transcription equipment, and other necessary tools.
• Ability to accept voice/text files in various formats and utilize word-processing software.
• Strong organizational skills for effective file management.
• Mathematical skills, including calculations and statistics, are required.
• Candidates who receive a conditional offer must undergo a criminal background check, education verification, reference checks, and an initial TB test.
