Technology R&D Lead Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the design and creation of prototypes, proofs-of-concept, and pilot solutions.

• Independently construct full-stack prototypes as necessary.

• Convert research goals into scalable technical architectures and implementation strategies.

• Assess both emerging and established technologies for their business relevance and integration capabilities.

• Conduct build-vs-buy analyses, vendor evaluations, and platform assessments.

• Influence the R&D pipeline and prioritize initiatives that align with the enterprise strategy.

• Break down complex business challenges into data inquiries, technology assumptions, and prototype strategies.

• Define experimental designs, success metrics, and evaluation criteria.

• Oversee technical validation and consolidate recommendations to advance, pivot, or terminate projects.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools in everyday engineering processes.

• Integrate AI/ML functionalities into prototypes and pilot solutions when applicable.

• Assist in outcome measurement and planning for production handoff.

• Engage with compliance, risk, legal, and information security teams early in the process.

• Transition successful prototypes into pilot implementations and aid in scaling them for production.

• Provide technical leadership, establish technical direction, and implement code review practices.

• Guide and mentor engineers of varying experience levels and working styles.

• Develop best practices for experimentation, rapid prototyping, and iterative development.

• Convey technical findings, insights, decisions, risks, and trade-offs to both technical and business stakeholders.

• Transform intricate technical concepts into actionable recommendations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or a comparable combination of education and/or relevant professional work experience.

• 7 years of experience in software engineering, product development, or roles focused on emerging technologies.

• Proven experience in developing prototypes, proofs-of-concept, pilot solutions, or production-ready capabilities.

• Hands-on experience in full-stack development with modern frontend frameworks, backend development, REST or GraphQL APIs, as well as relational and non-relational databases.

• Familiarity with contemporary development frameworks, cloud platforms, system architecture, Git, CI/CD principles, and collaborative development workflows.

• Knowledge of Microsoft technologies including Azure cloud services, Azure AI, Azure OpenAI Service, Microsoft Fabric, Power Platform, and associated tools.

• Experience evaluating Microsoft-native solutions, external alternatives, vendor offerings, build-vs-buy scenarios, platform assessments, or technology strategies against business and technical requirements.

• Acquainted with AI/ML, automation, data-driven systems, and AI-assisted development tools.

• Direct experience managing data across multiple enterprise systems.

• Preferred experience in regulated environments, with an understanding of privacy, model governance, AI ethics, compliance, risk, auditability, and data governance.

• Capability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams to achieve results and facilitate operational handoff.

• Experience mentoring engineers, researchers, or early-career technologists through code reviews, design discussions, and technical coaching.

• Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

• Demonstrated problem-first thinking, curiosity, self-direction, and comfort with ambiguity.

• Preferred familiarity with graph databases, knowledge graphs, network analysis, applied analytics, open-source contributions, technical writing, or innovation-oriented team environments.
