Technical Team Lead – Full-stack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Africa.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the end-to-end architecture for Commercial Pod systems, encompassing service boundaries, data models, event flows, and frontend-service agreements.

• Spearhead the design documentation process by crafting intricate designs, reviewing contributions from others, and facilitating design reviews.

• Act as a representative for Commercial in the organization-wide engineering standards initiative and promote the adoption of these standards.

• Make informed architectural trade-offs while documenting and explaining the rationale behind them.

• Implement high-risk production deployments utilizing Vue 3 and TypeScript in serverless/containerized environments.

• Establish engineering quality benchmarks through code reviews, emphasizing strict typing, test coverage, structured logging, correlation IDs, graceful failure management, and fault tolerance.

• Oversee production health using Datadog dashboards, monitors, SLOs, and actionable alerts.

• Lead the response to incidents and conduct root cause analyses, ensuring that subsequent tasks are addressed.

• Participate in the technical lead developer support rotation approximately every five weeks.

• Mentor engineers in collaboration with the Engineering Manager.

• Collaborate with the Product Manager to convert commercial objectives into a technical roadmap.

• Facilitate and promote Knowledge Sharing Sessions while maintaining reliable technical documentation.

• Conduct interviews and evaluate the technical competencies of candidates for the pod.

• Exhibit and promote humility, creativity, and independence.

• Work in partnership with peers and both internal and external business collaborators.

• Stay informed about and share current trends in modern web and back-end frameworks.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in building and managing production systems.

• A minimum of 2 years in a tech lead, staff engineer, or similar technical leadership role.

• Proficient in full-stack development across both frontend and backend systems.

• Skilled in designing DynamoDB access patterns and troubleshooting Vue 3 reactivity issues.

• Extensive experience with AWS, particularly in serverless and event-driven architectures.

• Production experience with idempotency keys, dead-letter queues, and backoff strategies.

• Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript.

• Strong expertise in Vue 3 or the ability to rapidly learn it from React or another modern framework.

• Proven experience leading architecture initiatives for a team and achieving the adoption of engineering standards.

• History of enhancing existing codebases through migration, deprecation, and reduction of technical debt.

• Operational maturity, including ownership of on-call duties, leadership in incidents, and completion of follow-up actions.

• Strong understanding of API design, REST conventions, versioning, and client-server contracts.

• Exceptional written communication skills with experience drafting design documents and RFCs.

• A mentorship-oriented mindset.

• Comfortable operating within an Agile/Scrum framework, with a strong commitment to agile development methodologies.

• Experience in FinTech or Crypto sectors is highly favored.

• Familiarity with technologies such as TypeScript, Node.js, Vue 3 Composition API, Pinia, Vite, Vitest, Storybook, Serverless Framework, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Step Functions, EKS, Helm, Istio, Valkey, ElastiCache, S3, API Gateway, Cognito, AWS Bedrock, Datadog, and GitHub Actions.

• Experience in African markets or in environments involving multiple currencies and regulators is advantageous.

• Depth of knowledge in Kubernetes and EKS, including Helm and Istio, will set you apart.

• Experience with Datadog instrumentation, SLO design, and trace-driven debugging will be an asset.

• Proven experience in delivering AI-enhanced production features and utilizing AI tools will be a distinguishing factor.

• Background in promoting an RFC or design-review culture will enhance your candidacy.

• Experience with design systems and shared component libraries will make you stand out.
