This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Create professional technical reports utilizing Orbital's inspection databases, reporting tools, and document management systems.
• Transform field observations, inspection results, engineering suggestions, and repair actions into client-ready outputs.
• Maintain uniformity in report formatting, terminology, visuals, and presentation across all business units.
• Review and refine reports for accuracy, completeness, grammar, clarity, and technical consistency.
• Coordinate report revisions and incorporate feedback from inspectors, engineers, and project managers.
• Organize and manage field notes, inspection forms, images, sketches, and engineering documents.
• Ensure that inspection data and supporting documents are complete prior to report generation.
• Keep document templates, reporting standards, quality control checklists, electronic project files, and records up to date.
• Assist with document retention and project closeout activities.
• Create technical sketches, markups, exhibits, deficiency location drawings, condition maps, repair exhibits, and asset-specific visual documentation using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, GIS tools, or Orbital reporting systems.
• Integrate photographs, figures, and supporting graphics into technical reports.
• Provide support to inspection and engineering teams with technical figures and presentation materials.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews and ensure consistency between field documentation, engineering recommendations, repair priorities, and final reports.
• Adhere to Orbital's Quality Management System (QMS).
• Identify discrepancies and work with project teams to resolve them.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of report-writing processes and deliverable standards.
• Collaborate with inspectors, field personnel, engineers, project managers, and office managers to meet deadlines.
• Track report schedules and assist in delivering contractual obligations on time.
• Communicate report status and workload priorities to management.
• Aid in proposals, example deliverables, and marketing materials.
• Assist with emergency response inspections and expedited reporting tasks.
• Utilize web-based inspection databases, digital inspection platforms, GIS solutions, and document management systems.
• Facilitate the migration and organization of digital inspection data.
• Help with report templates and automated reporting tools.
• Engage in digital workflow enhancements across the Asset Integrity organization.
• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of experience in technical writing, report preparation, engineering documentation, inspection reporting, construction documentation, or a related field.
• Strong skills in technical writing, editing, and proofreading.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with document management systems and digital reporting platforms.
• Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communications, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.
• Preferred: Experience supporting engineering, inspection, construction, infrastructure, utility, steel, mining, power generation, manufacturing, or asset management organizations.
• Preferred: Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, GIS platforms, Adobe Acrobat, or technical illustration software.
• Preferred: Knowledge of Asset Integrity, Asset Management, Mechanical Integrity (MI), or Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs.
• Preferred: Experience in writing structural, mechanical, civil, or industrial inspection reports.
• Preferred: Knowledge of QA/QC procedures and document control systems.
• Preferred: Experience working with databases and web-based inspection platforms.
