This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee Magical’s most intricate, high-risk, or technically ambiguous customer deployments.
• Create agentic workflows, enhance prompts, develop integrations, troubleshoot failures, assess system behavior, and deliver production solutions.
• Identify and resolve issues across customer environments, integrations, agent performance, data quality, and platform behavior.
• Provide technical guidance across various customers and teams.
• Evaluate solution designs, implementation strategies, testing methodologies, and production readiness.
• Mentor FDEs and assist junior team members in cultivating problem-solving, debugging, and systems-thinking skills.
• Recognize risks, architectural vulnerabilities, and reliability concerns before they escalate into customer-facing issues.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to differentiate deployment-specific challenges from platform-level deficiencies.
• Convert recurring customer problems into reusable platform functionalities, internal tools, reference implementations, and technical standards.
• Enhance testing, observability, debugging, incident response, documentation, and release management practices.
• Help establish the benchmark for outstanding Forward Deployed Engineering at Magical.
• Report to the Head of Deployments and work alongside Forward Deployed Engineers, Deployment Strategy, Product, and Engineering.
• Extensive experience in software engineering, Forward Deployed Engineering, solutions engineering, systems integration, implementation engineering, or a similarly hands-on technical role.
• Proven experience as a technical lead or senior individual contributor on complex, customer-facing software deployments.
• Capability to transition from understanding customer workflows to debugging integrations, enhancing agent performance, and delivering reliable production solutions.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to create structure in ambiguous situations.
• Excellent technical judgment, including the ability to discern when to rectify an implementation, modify architecture, or escalate platform limitations.
• Willingness to personally tackle challenging implementation and debugging tasks.
• Ability to influence and guide engineers without formal management authority.
• Strong mentoring capabilities.
• Effective communication with engineers, deployment teams, and customer stakeholders.
• Deep commitment to production reliability, testing, observability, and root-cause analysis.
• Interest in AI agents, prompting, automation, and multi-agent systems.
• Strong inclination towards action and a “show, don’t tell” methodology.
• High level of agency, prioritization, decision-making, and self-unblocking skills.
• Comfort in early-stage environments where the technical playbook is still in development.
• Residing in Toronto or willing to relocate.
• A background in science, engineering, or a similarly technical field is advantageous but not mandatory.
