Tech Lead – Backend, Billing & Fees

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Define and lead the architectural framework, technical strategy, and engineering roadmap for Billing & Fees services.

• Design and develop services for configuring fee policies, calculating fees, generating invoices, adjusting billing, and reconciling accounts.

• Create data pipelines and integrations that link Snowflake, Salesforce, Ledger, and internal financial services.

• Establish guidelines for financial accuracy, idempotency, traceability, reconciliation, exception handling, and audit trails.

• Oversee technical design presentations, architecture assessments, and service design processes.

• Design and evaluate production code, mentor engineering teams, offer technical direction, and resolve complex issues.

• Collaborate with teams across Product, Finance, Commercial, Back Office, Ledger, Digital Assets, and Fiat.

• Set standards for observability, monitoring, performance, incident response, and operational resilience.

• Define expectations for testing, CI/CD processes, documentation, and management of technical debt.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in backend software engineering.

• Proficient hands-on knowledge of Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot.

• Proven experience in leading technical projects or providing technical direction to fellow engineers.

• History of designing and delivering complex, distributed, production-quality systems.

• Understanding of microservices, event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS), relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), and Redis.

• Experience in financially sensitive systems such as billing, invoicing, payments, ledgers, fee calculation, or reconciliation platforms.

• Expertise in domain-driven design, hexagonal architecture, service decomposition, bounded contexts, and asynchronous communication techniques.

• Capability to oversee technical architecture and influence engineering decisions.

• Strong experience in RESTful API design, including backward compatibility and integration methodologies.

• Knowledge of transactional consistency, idempotency, error recovery, and reconciliation in distributed systems.

• Experience in mentoring and supporting engineers.

• Background in managing business-critical systems, engaging in on-call rotations, handling incidents, and using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, and Micrometer.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated testing, and contemporary software delivery practices.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities across Engineering, Product, Finance, and Commercial teams.

• Comfortable functioning as both a hands-on engineer and a technical leader.
