Team Lead – Product Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Overall technical responsibility for the continued enhancement of the product, encompassing architecture, data models, backend, frontend, and interfaces.

• Evaluate the current codebase, establish the target architecture, and gradually refactor the legacy stack towards cloud-native, modular services and well-defined APIs.

• Implement and expand the use of AI tools throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including coding assistance, code reviews, test generation, and documentation.

• Create a technically feasible product roadmap for various global markets in collaboration with Product Management.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop a lean, high-performing engineering team of up to 5 full-time equivalents (FTE).

• Establish scalable development processes such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), automated testing, observability, and incident management.

• Collaborate with executive management, business development, product management, customer success, and international stakeholders.

• Ensure platform stability, security, data protection, and compliance within a highly regulated environment.

• Employ AI-driven methods in the product, such as data enrichment, classification, and decision support.

• Contribute to the overarching tech strategy of the group, including API harmonization, shared data models, cross-entity initiatives, and technical due diligence for acquisitions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of experience as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, or Head of Engineering in a Software as a Service (SaaS) or platform environment.

• Ideally, experience managing a mature product that has undergone modernization.

• Proven experience in refactoring and migrating complex system architectures from legacy systems to cloud-native solutions.

• Experience with products deployed across multiple countries or global markets.

• Familiarity with localization, regulatory differences, and regional data requirements.

• Strong understanding of contemporary software architectures (cloud-native, microservices, event-driven).

• Experience with at least one hyperscaler (Azure, AWS, or GCP).

• Hands-on approach: continue programming, reviewing code, and discussing architecture and data models.

• Experience with complex data models and integrations with third-party systems.

• Practical experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools.

• Demonstrated leadership skills in lean teams.

• Experience in recruitment and team development.

• Confident stakeholder management up to C-level/executive level.

• Strong focus on delivery.

• Fluent communication skills in both German and English.
