This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +25 more states.
• Execute daily accounting tasks associated with program operations.
• Prepare and submit necessary payroll taxes and tax reports.
• Create journal entries and conduct reconciliations.
• Carry out monthly bookkeeping and reconcile general ledger accounts with billing records, tax reports, or bank statements.
• Investigate state-specific regulations regarding employer and employee tax enrollment.
• Formulate procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with both state and federal payroll tax laws and regulations.
• Register Palco with state and federal authorities to recognize individuals as new employers and facilitate timely tax and labor reporting.
• Keep client tax accounts in good standing.
• Supervise the establishment of individuals as the employer of record with state and federal agencies.
• Track agent appointment letters and tax identification number assignments.
• Research, compile, and develop protocols for new state-specific tax-reporting processes.
• Submit tax deposits and reports, including SUTA, state income tax reports and reconciliations, IRS Forms 941 and 940, W-2, W-3, 1099, and 1096.
• Ensure timely payment of taxes, garnishments, and other liabilities.
• Reconcile workers’ compensation policies and provide data for annual insurance audits.
• Project workers’ compensation and other tax expenses for budgeting purposes.
• Assist with audits, reviews, year-end closings, and preparation of tax reports.
• Produce regular accounting-related reports.
• Document accounting procedures thoroughly.
• Uphold confidentiality of records.
• Suggest process enhancements.
• Conduct periodic data quality assessments.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or processing.
• Proficient understanding of payroll, payroll taxes, general ledgers, and accounting or bookkeeping practices.
• Competence in using accounting software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• General computer skills are necessary.
• Ability to analyze data and interpret regulations.
• Capability to draw logical conclusions and provide solutions for unique scenarios.
• Self-motivated individual willing to take ownership of processes.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• A 4-year college degree in a business-related field is preferred; accounting majors are highly regarded.
