This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Manage Windows servers and workstations, including installation, updates, troubleshooting, and Windows Server functionalities.
• Oversee Linux servers, handling deployment, patching, package management, service monitoring, and performance optimization.
• Administer Truenas (CORE and SCALE) file servers, focusing on management, services, and performance enhancement.
• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases, encompassing backups, replication, performance tuning, schema migrations, and troubleshooting.
• Administer Active Directory, including user/group lifecycle management, OU structure, Group Policy Object (GPO) design, application troubleshooting, and AD health monitoring.
• Configure and sustain Remote Desktop Services (RDS) / Terminal Services, managing session host farms, licensing, profiles, RD Gateway, and security measures.
• Provide first- and second-line helpdesk support for incidents related to servers and workstations, escalating to vendors or senior engineers as necessary.
• Implement and uphold monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (metrics, log aggregation, capacity planning) to support continuous operations.
• Conduct regular backups and verify disaster recovery and business continuity processes for systems and databases.
• Strengthen systems and enforce security best practices, including patch management, access controls, vulnerability remediation, auditing, and endpoint protection.
• Automate routine tasks and deployments through scripting (Bash, PowerShell, Python) and configuration management tools.
• Keep precise documentation, including knowledgebase articles, on-call procedures, topology diagrams, change logs, and incident post-mortems.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and carry out out-of-hours maintenance or incident response as required.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or relevant practical experience along with appropriate industry certifications are acceptable.
• A minimum of 3 years of systems administration experience in both Linux and Windows environments.
• Extensive experience in Linux administration (e.g., Ubuntu, RedHat, and other distributions).
• Strong Windows Server administration skills, including Active Directory and Group Policy management.
• Experience with Remote Desktop Services or similar VDI/session-host technologies.
• Hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience, including backups, replication, tuning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Background in providing helpdesk or end-user support and incident triage.
• Proficiency in scripting (Bash, PowerShell, Python) and familiarity with automation/configuration management tools.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and firewalls.
• Understanding of security controls, IAM concepts, and best practices.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and customer-service abilities.
