System Engineer – Bare Metal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Ensure the maintenance and support of core infrastructure systems, possessing in-depth knowledge of Linux (Debian/Ubuntu preferred).

• Operate close to the hardware level: BIOS, IPMI, RAID configurations, and hardware diagnostics are well within your expertise.

• Design and uphold scalable networks utilizing VLANs, L2/L3 routing, VPNs, and particularly UniFi equipment.

• Automate infrastructure provisioning and operations through Ansible, Bash/Python, and Git-based workflows.

• Establish and manage observability stacks, incorporating Prometheus/Grafana for metrics and Graylog, ELK, or Loki for log centralization.

• Develop tools for server discovery, configuration auto-generation, automated OS deployments, PXE/Preseed/Cloud-init, and robust MAAS-based provisioning.

• Integrate and/or create internal APIs for monitoring compute and GPU resource allocation, along with external APIs (billing, monitoring, OpenStack, etc.).

• Deploy and maintain virtualization and orchestration platforms such as OpenStack (ideally with Kolla-Ansible), Proxmox VE, or VMware ESXi.

• Provide support for container-based workloads and efficiently isolate services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Expert-level administration of Linux systems (preferably Debian/Ubuntu).

• Strong experience with MAAS / Ironic / bare-metal automation is a requirement.

• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: VLANs, routing, VPNs.

• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Ansible), scripting (Bash/Python), and GitOps.

• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Graylog.

• Comfort with custom deployment automation (PXE, Preseed, MAAS/Ironic).

• Understanding of resource tracking, API integrations, and dashboard development.

• Demonstrated experience with OpenStack, Proxmox, VMware, and container orchestration.

• Experience in a startup or hyper-growth environment is a substantial advantage. Autonomy, speed, and problem-solving skills are critical.
