Backend Software Engineer – Applied ML, LLM Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Create systems that extract structured data from emails, documents, and other unstructured sources.

• Enhance migrated records of clients, landlords, tenants, and properties with valuable information derived from communication history.

• Design solutions that summarize a client’s complete email history and highlight the most pertinent context within Dwelly.

• Construct reliable production-level NLP / ML-powered backend services that function effectively with messy, real-world data.

• Refine retrieval and ranking systems utilizing methods such as RAG, BM25, embeddings, hybrid search, and reranking.

• Establish quality metrics, evaluation datasets, and feedback mechanisms for extraction, summarization, and retrieval systems.

• Develop Python backend services and APIs utilizing frameworks like FastAPI, Django, Flask, or similar.

• Integrate ML and LLM workflows into production environments, ensuring clear error handling, observability, and maintainability.

• Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and operations teams to transform real business challenges into scalable automation solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in Python backend engineering.

• Familiarity with API frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, Flask, or similar.

• Hands-on experience in production with NLP, ML, information extraction, retrieval, ranking, or summarization systems.

• Capability to transition research concepts or prototypes into production-ready applications.

• Strong grasp of evaluation, metrics, and quality assessment for ML / LLM systems.

• Practical knowledge of retrieval systems including RAG, BM25, embeddings, hybrid search, or reranking.

• Comfort in working with messy, ambiguous, or incomplete real-world data.

• Proficiency in building reliable services surrounding ML workflows, encompassing monitoring, testing, and failure management.

• Good understanding of the limitations of LLMs, risks of hallucination, and safe user-facing AI practices.

• Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work autonomously in ambiguous product domains.
