This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +4 more states.
• Act as the operational cornerstone and administrative support for the Corporate Legal department.
• Supervise corporate legal billing, external counsel expenditures, invoice assessments, and budget management.
• Establish legal spending control systems, billing workflows, approval protocols, and reporting mechanisms.
• Assist in compliance across lending, servicing, and corporate operations.
• Track compliance with federal and state regulations, including usury laws, licensing standards, and disclosure responsibilities.
• Maintain compliance policies, procedures, and training materials.
• Oversee outside counsel, legal service providers, vendor contracts, engagement letters, and performance expectations.
• Manage entity administration, corporate filings, board resolutions, governance documents, and intellectual property issues.
• Aid in corporate structuring and expansion into new regions.
• Coordinate litigation tracking, settlements, enforcement actions, dispute resolution, and litigation management.
• Collaborate with Asset Management, Finance, and Operations on resolving non-performing assets.
• Develop legal department policies, procedures, operational standards, governance frameworks, quality assurance processes, and scalability strategies.
• Identify obstacles and promote continuous improvement in legal operations.
• Serve as a liaison between Corporate Legal and ARCs, Finance, and General Counsel.
• Elevate and resolve interdepartmental legal issues.
• Support executive leadership with briefings, risk assessment, and legal operational reporting.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• 8–15+ years of legal experience, with a strong focus on legal operations, corporate legal management, or in-house counsel roles.
• Hands-on experience within a Non-QM mortgage company or Non-QM mortgage lending environment.
• Industry expertise in Non-QM mortgage lending, specialty mortgage finance, or a closely related mortgage lending field.
• Proven experience in developing systems, processes, and governance frameworks within a legal department.
• Background in compliance, commercial litigation, vendor management, and corporate law.
• Demonstrated ability to manage outside counsel and control legal expenditures.
• Experience in supporting senior leadership in operational, deputy, chief of staff, or business management roles.
• U.S.-based with a robust understanding of U.S. federal and state legal and regulatory environments.
• Reliable internet connection.
• Professional and dedicated remote working environment.
• Active bar membership in good standing is preferred.
• Experience in private lending, financial services, fintech, or alternative finance is strongly preferred.
• Excellent project management skills, operational mindset, and attention to detail.
• Proficiencies in legal operations, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, litigation management, vendor management, legal expenditure management, and risk management.
