SVP Consumer Lending, Operations

📋 Description

• Provide strategic direction and overarching accountability for the Consumer Lending division, which includes Indirect Lending, Consumer Lending Underwriting, and Consumer Lending Operations, ensuring overall performance, alignment, and results across these areas.

• Ensure that each department's established metrics are consistently tracked, analyzed, and reported regularly.

• Collaborate with the CCO and Consumer Lending VPs to develop the Consumer Lending Strategy and implementation plans that clearly define and measure performance results and outcomes for each area of consumer lending.

• Ensure competitive products and services are available to meet members’ needs across all markets.

• Accountable for Consumer Lending VPs to enhance productivity, profitability (P&L), and efficiency, delivering annual business results (P&L) that exceed budget expectations.

• Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of Vice Presidents overseeing key consumer lending functions by establishing clear strategic objectives, performance expectations, and leadership standards, while also fostering their professional growth and succession readiness.

• Monitor performance, provide continuous feedback and coaching to direct and indirect reports, and conduct performance evaluations and development discussions as necessary.

• Partner with the Chief Lending Officer to create, implement, and monitor consumer lending strategies that align with the Credit Union’s goals, offering regular updates on performance, portfolio trends, and risk considerations.

• Oversee the administration, performance, and optimization of mortgage systems, analyze and develop departmental metrics, and prepare reports for executive leaders and the CCO.

• Maintain and oversee the Consumer Lending pipeline to ensure timely processing of loans.

• Review monthly management statistics and report on the quality of loan applications submitted through various channels, along with trends in approval and funding.

• Champion continuous improvement and modernization in consumer lending by setting expectations for process efficiency, effective technology use, regulatory compliance, and consistently high-quality member experiences.

• Ensure robust governance and oversight of credit risk through the establishment and maintenance of appropriate underwriting standards, portfolio quality controls, and regulatory compliance frameworks.

• Act as the final escalation point for complex credit exceptions and strategic lending decisions in compliance with all Federal, State, and NCUA requirements.

• Provide financial stewardship for the Consumer Lending division by developing and managing the annual budget, monitoring financial performance, and reviewing key performance indicators to ensure goals related to growth, profitability, and risk are met.

• Foster a high-performance leadership culture built on collaboration, integrity, accountability, and innovation, while supporting leadership development, employee engagement, and long-term talent development throughout the division.

• Lead and support cultural change as it arises, working closely with the CCO, direct reports, and other colleagues to maintain a strong organizational culture and capabilities.

• Participate in the development and enhancement of the Credit Union's defined ethics and values, as well as strategic planning relating to consumer lending programs, trends, and other responsibilities.

• Represent the Credit Union at an executive level in both internal and external engagements, including interactions with members, team members, business partners, dealers, regulators, auditors, and other stakeholders.

• Perform additional executive-level duties as assigned to support the Credit Union’s mission, strategic priorities, and operational excellence.

• Engage in and support continuous improvement initiatives.

• Represent the Credit Union in a professional and positive manner.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding member, team member, and other sensitive information.

• Treat co-workers and members with respect.

• Participate in and volunteer for credit union community activities and events that promote member-centric experiences.

• Other related duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in Consumer Lending sales and operations with direct credit authority, along with expertise in analyzing loan portfolios and product management.

• At least five years of directly related leadership experience.

• Comprehensive knowledge of banking or financial institution mortgage lending.

• High level of expertise in credit.

• Experience in an organization with a regional model, including some matrix reporting structure.

• Proficiency in business planning, budget preparation, and understanding credit scoring and automated approval systems.

• Extensive knowledge of Federal, State, and NCUA laws and regulations applicable to consumer lending, as well as internal policies.

• Experience with product innovation and digital lending platforms.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills capable of presenting complex subjects clearly and concisely.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities: capable of analyzing and evaluating loan requests and making informed credit decisions.

• Ability to develop effective solutions and make decisions that impact the entire organization while remaining accountable.

• Proficient in computer skills.

• The position requires the capability to establish realistic and attainable strategic plans to achieve business development goals.

• Strong management, organizational, and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff.

• Effective team builder with a demonstrated ability to empower, coach, and mentor staff.
