Sustaining Engineer, Independent Contractor/Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Deliver specialized, project-oriented engineering services to our Global Engineering team on a contractual basis.

• Offer technical expertise to support deployed assets throughout their entire lifecycle, from commissioning to retirement.

• Assist in establishing proactive strategies for identifying and managing field-related issues.

• Provide technical analysis and recommendations concerning field challenges.

• Observe performance trends across deployed devices and systems.

• Create written maintenance recommendations for deployed assets.

• Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) initiatives.

• Suggest and aid in the implementation of design enhancements for existing products.

• Collaborate with internal engineering partners and customer-facing teams as required to ensure successful results.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant experience in customer-facing roles within the electric power industry, ideally supporting technical products or field operations.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a comparable technical field.

• Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.

• At least 10 years of progressively responsible technical experience.

• Experience supporting utility products in field settings.

• Proficient in conducting RCAs.

• Skilled in designing power-electronics-based products.

• Experience troubleshooting PCBAs.

• This position is a remote, independent contractor role with flexible scheduling options.

• Estimated commitment of around 20 hours per week.

• Actual scheduling is at the Consultant’s discretion, with reasonable efforts to be available for pre-scheduled meetings with internal stakeholders and customers during standard business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET).

• The engagement term is expected to last approximately no more than 3 months but may be extended.

• No travel is expected for this role.
