Surplus Lines Tax Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Prepare, examine, and assist with surplus lines tax documentation and reporting obligations across various states.

• Monitor submission deadlines and ensure that filings comply with relevant state surplus lines tax regulations.

• Reconcile tax payments, maintain precise records, and investigate or resolve any discrepancies.

• Collaborate with internal teams to collect data, confirm policy details, and facilitate accurate filings.

• Aid in research pertaining to regulatory updates and help uphold internal procedures as requirements evolve.

• Support audits by organizing documentation, addressing inquiries, and providing accurate records.

• Keep tax-related files and records systematically organized for easy retrieval, review, and inspection.

• Identify areas for process improvement, enhance accuracy, and increase overall efficiency.

• Responsible for ensuring timely payments to state departments and reconciling accounts.


⛳️ Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

• At least 2 years of experience in tax support, insurance operations, accounting support, or a similar administrative role is required.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with the capability to organize, review, and analyze extensive data sets.

• Ability to investigate state-specific requirements and implement updates to filing processes and procedures.

• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the capability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.

• Capability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative and fast-paced team environment.

• Comfort in identifying process enhancements and assisting in the implementation of practical solutions that boost efficiency and minimize risk.

• Experience with multi-state surplus lines tax regulations, property and casualty insurance, or regulatory filing processes is highly beneficial.

• Fluency in English is required.

• No specific certifications, licenses, or registrations are necessary.
