Surgery & Observation Facility Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver coding for CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM across 1–4 specialties.

• Execute professional fee, facility, or HCC coding tasks.

• Code multispecialty same-day surgeries, including those in interventional radiology.

• Identify critical-care cases based on the severity of patient conditions.

• Code surgical procedures commonly found in an ER environment to enhance revenue capture when suitable.

• Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes with the highest possible specificity.

• Accurately implement ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT®, and HCPCS diagnosis and procedure codes.

• Interpret coding guidelines to ensure precise code assignment.

• Evaluate the significance of documentation and its effect on reimbursement.

• Adhere to AHIMA ethical coding standards alongside company ethics, compliance programs, policies, and procedures.

• Safeguard confidential and personal health information.

• Engage in training and educational programs provided by the company.

• Uphold required standards for productivity, accuracy, and quality.

⛳️ Requirements

• Certification from either AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P) is required.

• A minimum of 6 months of practical experience is needed.

• Must demonstrate regular, consistent, and punctual attendance.

• Possess working knowledge and experience with EMR and billing systems.

• Access to a phone, reliable internet connection, and up-to-date CPT and ICD-10-CM coding references.

• Maintain ongoing productivity and accuracy levels of 95% or higher.

• Achieve a quality score of 95% or above.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook applications.

• Effective in both verbal and written communication.

• Capable of coordinating, analyzing, observing, making decisions, and adhering to deadlines.

• Ability to work independently from home.

• Comfortable working at a computer terminal for 6–8 hours daily.

• Occasionally able to lift and move materials weighing up to 20 lbs.
