Substation Physical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Lead and manage the design and preparation of physical design drawings for substations.

• Create electrical details, grounding plans, conduit layouts, and control cubicle designs.

• Conduct engineering studies, including AC load analysis, illumination, grounding, and lightning protection.

• Collaborate with protection & controls, civil/structural, and drafting teams.

• Assist in client meetings, technical discussions, and project planning activities.

• Engage in site visits and constructability assessments.

• Ensure adherence to industry regulations (such as IEEE, NESC, NEC) and utility standards.

• Mentor and support junior engineers and designers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, ideally in electrical engineering with a focus on Power.

• Over 2 years of experience in substation physical design for electric utilities.

• More than 2 years of experience utilizing Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.

• Strong initiative and leadership skills to foster career growth.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications, particularly Word and Excel.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or the capability to obtain one within six months.

• Expertise in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or comparable design software.

• Knowledge of substation design standards and practices (IEEE, NESC, utility specifications).

• Capability to manage multiple projects and mentor junior personnel.

• Experience leading substation projects modeled in 3D using Autodesk Inventor.

• Understanding of substation grounding studies and CDEGS.

• Familiarity with Agi32 illumination software.
