Substation Physical Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Prepare design drawing packages and necessary documentation for electric power substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV.

• Create or modify electrical layout and plan drawings for substation equipment and structures.

• Generate or revise substation foundation layout and plan drawings.

• Produce or alter section and elevation views based on layout and plan drawings.

• Design or adjust conduit layout and plan drawings.

• Develop or enhance substation grounding layout and plan drawings.

• Create or modify layout and section/elevation drawings for control buildings.

• Prepare comprehensive bills of materials for necessary electrical equipment and materials.

• Review and provide feedback on equipment drawings from vendors and manufacturers.

• Collaborate with other disciplines, including Civil Engineers, to complete assigned tasks.

• Support the project team with processes and procedures aimed at improving team efficiency.

• Execute basic engineering calculations to facilitate engineering design.

• Apply pertinent client, national, and state standards to each task.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma with over 1 year of direct experience in substation physical electrical design using CAD software on electric utility projects.

• A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for formal education and experience requirements.

• Strong understanding and practical application of design software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.

• Proficient in Windows-based applications such as Word and Excel.

• Ability to learn and effectively use new design software programs.

• Advanced capability in utilizing 2D and 3D applications to create engineering drawings.

• Ability to collaborate within a team environment with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and Drafters in multi-discipline groups.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Keen attention to detail and quality of work.

• Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or Drafting Technology is preferred.

• Experience with Autodesk Inventor and SDS 3D tools is advantageous.

• Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation is a plus.

• Knowledge of Autodesk ReCap and other LiDAR applications is beneficial.
