This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Create new and modify existing civil site plan drawings for substations.
• Develop grading, drainage, and stormwater management plans.
• Formulate erosion and sediment control plans that comply with local and state regulations.
• Design roadway, access drive, and site layout plans.
• Execute earthwork grading and cut/fill balancing utilizing Civil 3D or OpenRoads/MicroStation methodologies.
• Conduct AutoTURN analyses to ensure access for construction and maintenance vehicles.
• Prepare utility layouts that include storm sewer, sanitary, and water service plans as necessary.
• Create permit-ready civil drawing packages for review by utilities and agencies.
• Assist with the development of permitting exhibits and environmental and jurisdictional permitting processes.
• Collaborate with surveyors, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and substation electrical teams.
• Review vendor drawings related to civil engineering and incorporate feedback.
• Support quantity takeoffs and the preparation of project deliverables.
• Adhere to client standards, local agency requirements, and best practices within the industry.
• Contribute to electric utility substation, industrial, commercial, municipal, and related power delivery projects for Leidos.
• An Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related discipline.
• Level 3: A minimum of 2 years of civil site design experience using MicroStation.
• Level 4: A minimum of 3 years of civil site design experience using MicroStation.
• Strong proficiency with MicroStation is essential.
• Experience in developing civil site plans for utility, industrial, commercial, or municipal projects.
• Working knowledge of grading design and earthwork calculations.
• Proven experience in preparing erosion and sediment control plans.
• Familiarity with principles of stormwater management and permitting requirements.
• Experience with AutoTURN vehicle turning analyses.
• Understanding of site development permitting processes and agency coordination.
• Ability to interpret survey and geotechnical data.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Capability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
• Substation experience is preferred but not mandatory.
• Familiarity with utility client standards is preferred.
• Experience with HEC-RAS, Hydraflow, HydroCAD, or similar hydrology software is preferred.
• Knowledge of SWPPP preparation and stormwater permitting requirements.
• Experience in coordinating with local, county, and state permitting agencies.
