
Strategic Finance Manager, R&D

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of modeling R&D expenditures, which includes cloud infrastructure, AI and computing costs, and engineering personnel.
• Ensure R&D expenses scale efficiently with revenue by developing models for cloud infrastructure and AI/computing costs.
• Utilize BigQuery and AI-driven analysis to transform billing data into actionable variance reports following month-end.
• Create headcount-capacity scenario models using Pigment and TRM’s Claude-powered scenario engine for the CTO and engineering leaders.
• Enhance board-deck automation to refresh executive and board materials based on governed named ranges.
• Collaborate with the Head of AI to optimize spending on AI and infrastructure while identifying build-vs-buy and efficiency opportunities.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual planning and reporting processes from start to finish.
• Generate the one-page Monthly Business Review for leadership and board documentation.
• Act as the finance liaison for R&D by partnering with the CTO, engineering leaders, Recruiting, and Accounting.
• Engage in weekly syncs with Strategic Finance and the VP of Finance.
• Work collaboratively in Slack and communicate planning updates and decisions in writing.
• 5 to 8 years of experience in investment banking, investing, consulting, or finance within a rapidly growing technology firm.
• Proven ability to independently manage monthly, quarterly, and annual planning and reporting cycles with minimal guidance.
• Proficient in using AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT for financial modeling and analysis.
• Skill in assessing when to rely on AI-generated outputs and when to make overrides.
• Advanced Excel and Google Sheets modeling capabilities.
• Experience in creating scalable, AI-assisted or agentic engines, such as in Pigment, for consistent reporting.
• Preferred background in supporting technical or product teams such as Engineering, Product, Data Science, or Infrastructure.
• Strong preference for experience in collaborating with technical teams on cloud and computing expenditures.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, demonstrate adaptability, take ownership, be accountable, collaborate effectively, and solve problems creatively.
• Basic AI fluency is expected, with applied AI fluency assessed during interviews.
