This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Establish requirements for thermal control systems based on vehicle and subsystem functional and performance goals.
• Create, develop, adjust, verify, and validate the performance of vehicle thermal control systems.
• Develop simulation and modeling tools for the design, analysis, and tuning of thermal control systems.
• Design and prototype controllers utilizing simulations and control system design methodologies.
• Determine the sizing and positioning of RTDs, heaters, radiators, and other thermal control components.
• Evaluate and optimize controller performance, stability, and robustness through simulations and TVAC test data.
• Generate control system documentation and collaborate with the vehicle software team to transform controller prototypes into flight code.
• Assist in unit and integrated testing of flight implementations.
• Aid in the calibration of thermal control system sensors and the incorporation of this calibration into flight software.
• A Bachelor's degree in a field related to Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
• Over 10 years of experience in the analysis, design, development, verification, and validation of space vehicle thermal control systems.
• Familiarity with relevant space vehicles, including space stations, crewed spacecraft, deep space science missions, extra-terrestrial rovers, or similar platforms.
• Proven experience in building, testing, and validating simulation and analysis tools for thermal control systems in space vehicles.
• Proficient in modeling, analyzing, and tuning thermal control systems to optimize thermal control authority while reducing power and energy consumption and simplifying control system design.
• Experience with limited thermal system observability.
• Competence in sizing thermal control systems and optimizing the placement of sensors, heaters, radiators, and other components.
• Experience with testbeds for control systems on flight-like hardware and formulating test plans.
• Strong skills in spacecraft thermal modeling, thermal control system design tools, and control systems analysis.
• Familiarity with tools such as Thermal Desktop and MATLAB Control System Toolbox.
• Experience in designing thermal control for complex, sensitive systems is preferred.
