Staff Software Engineer – Simulation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Define, construct, and support testing of autonomous trucks within a virtual testing environment utilizing real-world data replay and simulated driving scenarios.

• Take ownership of technical direction and key architectural decisions for simulation-based testing environments and infrastructure.

• Act as the subject matter expert in simulation, generate test scenarios, provide feedback on simulation tool functionalities, and facilitate organizational adoption.

• Assist in the testing of virtual driver software and guide teams on tools and environments based on simulation and data replay.

• Create simulation-based test scenarios, manage test-plan execution, and conduct post-test activities such as event-log analysis.

• Determine requirements for virtual testing tools, test infrastructures, and simulations of real-world components and vehicle sensors.

• Foster alignment among verification, model delivery, and autonomy consumer teams.

• Mentor and grow engineers, including senior individual contributors, while helping to establish the technical standards of the group.

• Lead process enhancements and report on testing progress and technical risks to product and quality management.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or an engineering equivalent, along with 10+ years of experience; or a Master's Degree in a related field with 7+ years; or a PhD in a related field with 5+ years.

• Highly skilled and proficient in the discipline, capable of conducting complex tasks with minimal supervision and significant independence in judgment.

• Strong comprehension of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

• In-depth knowledge of simulation-based testing, including the appropriate application of recompute simulation.

• Extensive experience in developing test scenarios and resolving complex software issues.

• Familiarity with Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation and testing methodologies.

• Ability to lead virtual testing events and trace and troubleshoot the complete software stack.

• Experience in mentoring and developing engineers, including senior individual contributors.

• Proven experience in reporting testing progress to product and quality management and driving the resolution of technical risks.

• Proficient in programming with C++ and Python (scripting).

• Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System).

• Capable of system-level troubleshooting, fault isolation, and identification.

• Working knowledge of Test-Driven Development and test framework architectures.

• Familiarity with Kanban, Scrum, or Scaled Agile development methodologies.

• Experience serving as a technical lead across multiple simulation or V&V initiatives.
