This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take ownership of the technical strategy for significant components of Chainguard Repository, encompassing customer-facing registries, APIs, and serving systems that facilitate secure and reliable consumption of Chainguard artifacts.
• Design, develop, and maintain high-availability backend services in Go that currently serve libraries and contribute to the groundwork for containers, images, and APK repositories in the future.
• Lead initiatives focused on scalability, reliability, observability, and load testing for production systems that customers rely on directly.
• Influence technical decisions regarding repository architecture, service boundaries, and the operational patterns essential for managing artifact-serving infrastructure at scale.
• Collaborate closely with engineers across Libraries, Build Platform, Delivery, Product, and Security to foster a unified repository experience and facilitate support for additional artifact types as they emerge.
• Mentor fellow engineers, elevate the standards for design and code reviews, and serve as a force multiplier within a dynamic team where staff engineers are expected to take ownership of significant deliverables and contribute to shaping team operations.
• 8+ years of experience in building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems, with demonstrable evidence of staff-level ownership and technical leadership.
• Strong experience in Go, or extensive backend systems expertise with the capacity to quickly adapt to Go.
• Experience in creating or managing customer-facing infrastructure such as package registries, artifact repositories, APIs, developer platforms, or other high-scale serving systems.
• Proven experience in deploying and managing production services, with sound judgment regarding reliability, observability, performance, and operational trade-offs.
• Comfortable navigating application and infrastructure layers, including service development, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
• Possess strong systems instincts and curiosity: proactively identify issues, pursue resolutions, and enhance the platform before problems become bottlenecks for customers or internal teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, particularly in a remote setting where staff engineers are expected to foster alignment across teams and transform ambiguity into actionable progress.
