Staff Software Engineer – PACS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Idaho, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Offer technical leadership across the OnePACS platform and its associated imaging workflows.

• Create, develop, maintain, and enhance Java-based platform services and applications.

• Facilitate architecture and design discussions focused on scalability, reliability, security, interoperability, compliance, and maintainability.

• Assist in the modernization of legacy platform components while ensuring production stability.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, QA, DevOps, Implementation, and Support teams to enhance platform reliability and operational readiness.

• Resolve complex production issues related to application behavior, DICOM workflows, HL7 interfaces, routing, configuration, and customer-specific scenarios.

• Guide engineers in technical design, code reviews, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing.

• Enhance documentation, runbooks, diagnostics, and repeatable support processes.

• Aid in minimizing technical risk by making critical system knowledge more accessible, visible, and widely shared.

• Participate in strategic product initiatives involving imaging workflow automation, reporting, AI integrations, DICOM router modernization, viewer modernization, and interoperability enhancements.

• Operate within Agile/Scrum delivery practices to ensure predictable planning, execution, and continuous improvement.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• A minimum of ten years of professional software engineering experience.

• Extensive hands-on experience in building and supporting production systems in Java.

• Proven experience in providing technical leadership within complex, business-critical platforms.

• Deep understanding of distributed systems, relational databases, performance, scalability, and production reliability.

• Experience in maintaining or modernizing legacy systems.

• Strong troubleshooting capabilities across application code, configuration, infrastructure, data, and external integrations.

• Ability to clearly communicate technical risks, trade-offs, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience in mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without formal authority.

• Strong documentation practices and a practical approach to developing repeatable engineering processes.

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Preferred experience with Medical Imaging and Interoperability, including but not limited to: PACS, RIS, VNA, radiology workflow platforms, DICOM networking, routing, storage, retrieval, troubleshooting DICOM routers, customer-deployed integration software, DCM4CHE or similar DICOM tools, HL7 interfaces, healthcare integration patterns, teleradiology workflows, medical image ingestion, lifecycle, retention, routing, imaging modalities, customer-specific workflow configuration, voice recognition, structured reporting, AI imaging, diagnostic workflow integrations, FDA-regulated software, medical device software, or healthcare compliance environments.
