This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee the design and execution of intricate team-level projects within Metadata services, facilitating development across various engineers.
• Create and develop new subsystem architectures, taking full ownership of team-level subsystems from start to finish.
• Utilize AI tools and agents throughout the development process and across SDLC artifacts.
• Evaluate and approve technical designs, identifying any design shortcomings prior to release.
• Propel technical initiatives pertaining to discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history.
• Establish and maintain design, architecture, and coding best practices.
• Mentor and coach engineers to enhance code quality.
• Draft technical specifications and document shared components.
• Rectify and optimize critical areas of the codebase, manage incident follow-through, and enhance service reliability and performance.
• Participate in the on-call rotation on a periodic basis.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, leading complex technical projects at the team level.
• Extensive knowledge in designing and managing subsystems within distributed, cloud-based systems.
• Capability to establish technical direction and lead initiatives involving multiple engineers.
• Exceptional design and architecture judgment with the ability to conduct thorough trade-off analyses.
• Proficient in writing exemplary, well-tested code and consistently delivering results from sprint to sprint.
• Proven history of enhancing quality through code reviews, peer coaching, and engineering practices.
• Experience collaborating with Quality Engineering on testing strategies and managing incidents, post-mortems, reliability, and performance.
• Proficient in Python, Java, C++, C#, or another modern backend or systems programming language.
• Practical experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker, Kubernetes, and development infrastructure.
• Fluent in utilizing AI code assistants, coding agents, and conversational AI for SDLC artifacts.
• Experience with ETL, ELT, or cloud-based data platforms.
• Background in architecting metadata, catalog, lineage, or discovery/search systems.
• Familiarity with GraphQL APIs and high-throughput, multi-tenant data services.
• Understanding of analytics engineering workflows and the dbt ecosystem.
