
Staff Software Engineer, Motion Planning

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, develop, and refine the mission planner, behavior planner, and motion planner for autonomous ground support equipment operating within airport airside settings.
• Influence critical technical choices throughout the planning stack — selecting algorithms, defining interfaces, and establishing the foundational architecture for the team.
• Prototype and assess innovative planning strategies (such as optimization-based techniques, search-based planners, and learning-augmented pipelines) and implement the most effective concepts in production.
• Collaborate across various functions with perception, controls, localization, and systems engineering teams to create a cohesive autonomous driving system.
• Establish and advocate for best practices in software development, functional safety, and systems engineering as they pertain to the planning domain.
• Provide mentorship to fellow engineers through technical advice, code reviews, and design discussions.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related discipline.
• Significant hands-on experience in designing and implementing planning modules for autonomous systems that have been deployed in production or real-world scenarios.
• Proficient programming skills in C++ (preferred) or Python, along with experience in Linux-based operating systems.
• Proven ability to tackle ambiguous technical challenges and independently drive them toward well-architected solutions.
• Exceptional communication abilities, a proactive approach, and a strong sense of ownership.
• MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related area (preferred).
• Expertise in Modern C++ (14 and later) and safety-critical coding standards (e.g., MISRA, ISO 26262).
• Over 5 years of industry experience in planning for robotic ground vehicles (preferred).
• Comprehensive understanding of DDS frameworks like ROS/ROS2 or similar networking middleware (preferred).
• Experience in startup environments, showcasing adaptability to swiftly changing priorities.
